For playstation 3 with the guitar hero 3 guitar work with "Rock band"?

Posted by admin on 30 September, 2008

"More clarity has surfaced regarding Activision and Harmonix's standoff over who's responsible for fixing the fact that you can't use you PS3 Guitar Hero controller with Rock Band. It turns out that despite all the finger pointing, it's activision who seems to be holding things up by demanding more money. A BOSTON GLOBE article quotes Activision spokesperson Marryanne Lataif as saying, 'We believe we should be compensated for the use of our technology'."

The above is a direct quote from Gameinformer Magazine Issue179 March 2008. Unfortunately Harmonix, the original makers of Guitar Hero and current developer of Rock Band, are still trying to get the patch released for PS3 from the company that Guitar Hero was sold to, Activision. Until a settlement for this is reached you will not be able to use a GH controller with Rock Band. Sony has also previously quoted in saying that the issue is between the 2 companies and they must reach an agreement. Sony also stated that they were staying out of the issue.

Ok, that website said my RAM wasn't good enough. I know minimum says 1GB and I only have 512MB, but my processor and video card should make up for it, I think. I'll just have to see how it goes. RAM isn't that much money, anyway.

HP Guitar Hero III PC compatability?

Posted by admin on 30 September, 2008

I have an HP Pavilion PC with the stock video card, Intel(R) 945 GM/GU Express, will GH III work? Do I have to buy a new video card for it to work, or is there another way?

According to the system requirements, Guitar Hero III will not work properly. At first I was going to say that I'm astounded at the high system requirements for the game, but then I read the entire list of supported hardware and have come to the conclusion that the system requirements were either written on a whim or by a complete idiot. The game is reported by the developers to work flawlessly on hardware that does not meet the minimum system requirements, and the system requirements are drastically different between MacOS and Windows XP. I just honestly wouldn't trust the requirements list at all.

That being said, I would still recommend you getting at the very least some form of dedicated video card. Integrated graphics cards still aren't anywhere near good enough to play most video games. Every generation ATI, nVidia, and Intel tell the public that their new integrated solution will work wonders, but the numbers always fall very short in the end.

Consider an 8400GS if you're not willing to spend too much more than $25 or a 9600GT if you're willing to get up to $100.

ps3: will the guitar hero 3 guitar become compatible to Rock band (and vice versa) any time this year?

Posted by admin on 30 September, 2008

i know about red octane denying the release of the patch but does anyone know if it willbe released, just not right now. or are they not going to release the patch ever?

I think it was Activison who actually blocked the patch, Red Octane are just the official makers of Guitar Hero 3 Controllers.

They probably wont be compatible any time soon unless Activison folds over. There seemed to be a big falling out with this issue where Harmonix released a statement saying Activison basically wasn't interested in the players convenience, just making money.

Here's an article about it in case some haven't seen this yet:
http://www.guitarzerotohero.com/posts/guitar-hero-news/activision-blocks-rock-band-ps3-guitar-patch

There actually is some good news though, Nyko has JUST released a controller for Playstation 3 that is compatible with Guitar Hero 3 AND Rock Band, here:

http://www.guitarzerotohero.com/posts/guitar-hero-news/guitar-hero-3-nyko-controllers

There's a video review at the end of that post too, hope this helps.
