Learning Guitar? A Used Electric Guitar Should Be ConsideredPlaying the electric guitar takes patience, perseverance and a lot of practice. You have to first decide if you want to learn on an acoustic guitar or on an electric guitar. Each is considerably different to play and the way they sound. Whichever you chose, you may change your mind later but, either way you need to buy yourself a guitar. Unfortunately, there are many makes, style and price to pick from - a somewhat daunting task for a newbie. In the first instance it is best to find yourself a used electric guitar as they will be cheaper and will be less costly should you decide to stop learning the guitar. Because It's a Used Electric Guitar Doesn't Mean It's Inferior A used electric guitar is not necessarily like buying a second hand car where you are expecting it to break down imminently! Indeed, many used electric guitars are very collectible, sought after and sell for values far greater that their original price. Most do not fall into this category however, and are priced somewhat lower than when they were new. With a used electric guitar you will be getting better value for money and they will usually be well run in - yes guitars need this also. So, a used electric guitar shouldn't cost too much money whilst you determine if you are cut out for guitar playing - if it hits the attic, you haven't lost much. You can always upgrade your guitar as and when your ability and finances allow. Where to Buy a Used Electric Guitar There are many places to look. Try your local pawn shop - this is where many instruments arrive after their owner decides that guitar playing isn't for them. You can also try your local music stores who often take in many a used electric guitar as trade-ins for new instruments. A good selection is often available. You could also search online auctions but the drawback here is that most of the time you will not be able to hold and play the guitar to see if you like the feel and tone of the instrument. So, is it really worth spending money on a new instrument before you know it's the right instrument for you? When you become more proficient then that may be the right time to upgrade from your used electric guitar to something newer. However, you may have fallen in love and become attached to your first used electric guitar and find that you will still have it (and have collected a load more guitars on the way!) when you have been playing for 30 years!
